How to sync your clipboard between Android and Windows (2026)
You copy a code, an address or a link on your Android phone and need it on your Windows PC a second later. There are three free ways to sync your clipboard between Android and Windows, each with a catch, and a fourth if you want a history on both. Here is how each one works and where it stops.
Option 1: Phone Link cross-device copy and paste
If you have a Samsung phone, this is the built-in answer and the one to try first. Phone Link on the PC pairs with the Link to Windows app on the phone, and once cross-device copy and paste is on, whatever you copy on one side is ready to paste on the other.
- Open Phone Link on your Windows PC and pair your phone. On many Samsung phones Link to Windows is already installed; on others, install it on the phone.
- On the PC, in Phone Link, go to Settings > Features > Cross-device copy and paste.
- Turn the toggle on.
- Copy on either device, then paste on the other as you normally would.
Microsoft lists these phones as supported:
- Samsung phones running One UI 2.1 or later
- Surface Duo
- Select HONOR models (Magic4 Pro, Magic6 series)
- Select OPPO models, including OnePlus, Find, Reno and Realme phones
- ASUS ROG Phone 8 family
- vivo X Fold3 Pro
- Xiaomi 14T series
The limits, in Microsoft's words or close to them:
- Only text and images can be copied between devices.
- Images above 1 MB are resized.
- Every copy on either device replaces the clipboard on both, so there is no history to go back to.
- It uses mobile data when the phone is not on Wi-Fi, unless you turn that off; then it only works while both devices are on Wi-Fi.
If your phone is not on the list
Microsoft does not list Pixel, Motorola or most other Android phones for this feature, so do not count on it there even if Phone Link pairs for messages and notifications. For those phones, Option 2 and Option 4 below are the ones that apply.
Option 2: SwiftKey Cloud Clipboard
Microsoft's SwiftKey keyboard can pass what you copy on Android to Windows clipboard history. It works on any Android phone that can run SwiftKey, as long as SwiftKey is your keyboard.
On Android:
- Open the Microsoft SwiftKey app and go to Rich input > Clipboard.
- Turn on Sync clipboard history to the cloud and sign in with your Microsoft account.
On Windows:
- Go to Settings > System > Clipboard.
- Turn on Clipboard history and Sync across devices, signed in with the same Microsoft account.
- Press Win+V on the PC to find what you copied on the phone.
The catches are real. It only works with SwiftKey on Android. It needs a personal Microsoft account (Outlook.com or Hotmail.com); work and school accounts are not accepted. It keeps only your last copied clip, and that clip is available for an hour. Microsoft's page talks about text; images are not documented.
Option 3: Windows clipboard history (Win+V)
Press Win+V on Windows 11 and you get clipboard history: up to 25 entries, up to 4 MB per item, covering text, HTML and images. It is cleared every time you restart the PC, except for items you have pinned.
Its sync is tied to your Microsoft account or work account and runs between Windows PCs signed in to the same account. That is the part people misread: Win+V does not reach an Android phone by itself. It only gets phone clips when something like SwiftKey feeds them in.
Option 4: a clipboard manager that pairs the two directly
The gap in all three is the same: one item at a time, no history on the phone, and an account in the middle. The clipboard-manager way is to keep one history on both devices. That is what Clipnest does.
- Install Clipnest on the PC and on the phone. On the PC, type the address the other device shows to start pairing.
- Type the six digit code it shows on the other device. A stranger on the same Wi-Fi cannot join without that code.
- On Windows, everything you copy is saved automatically. Press Ctrl+Shift+V to search the history and press Enter to paste into the app you left.
- On Android, the system does not allow apps to read the clipboard silently, so you add what you copied with one tap, or share anything into Clipnest from any app's share sheet.
Text, links, photos and files sync, and both devices keep the same history with search. Card numbers,
login codes and secret keys are recognised and shown only as a hint like CARD: 4111••••,
kept out of search, and still paste when you need them.
The phone and the PC talk to each other directly over your own Wi-Fi, encrypted end to end between your devices. Nothing you copy goes through our servers, and there is no account to make. Today both devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi; syncing from anywhere is on the way. Windows is on the Microsoft Store now. Android is coming soon.

Questions
Why is cross-device copy and paste not working in Phone Link?
Microsoft's own troubleshooting: confirm Cross-device copy and paste is turned on in Phone Link under Settings > Features, try copying a smaller piece of text, close and reopen Phone Link on the PC and Link to Windows on the phone, and as a last resort restart the PC. Also check your phone is on Microsoft's supported list above; most Android phones outside Samsung and a few named models are not.
Does Phone Link keep a clipboard history?
No history is documented. Microsoft says every time you copy something on either device, it replaces the clipboard content on both devices, so only the latest copy is there.
Can I sync my Android clipboard to Windows without a Microsoft account?
SwiftKey Cloud Clipboard needs a personal Microsoft account, and Windows clipboard sync is tied to a Microsoft or work account. Clipnest needs no account: the phone and the PC pair with a six digit code and talk to each other directly over your Wi-Fi. Clipnest for Android is coming soon.
Does Win+V sync to my Android phone?
Not by itself. Windows clipboard history syncs only between Windows PCs signed in to the same account. Your phone can feed it through SwiftKey Cloud Clipboard, which passes over your last copied text for an hour.
